The Orange County Museum of Art. #OCMA
The Orange County Museum of Art is situated at Orange County’s major arts complex, on the campus of Segerstrom Center for the Arts, creating a vibrant cultural destination in Costa Mesa.
Defined by an open and engaging urban presence, OCMA’s builds on the museum’s history of community enrichment and presentation of thought-provoking works of art across a wide range of mediums, by artists of diverse backgrounds.
The museum’s exterior is striking, with its unique geometric shapes and clean lines. The interplay of glass and metal creates a dynamic facade that changes appearance depending on the time of day and angle of view. The building invites you in, promising an experience that is as much about the space as it is about the art within.
As you move through the building, the different levels and walkways offer unique perspectives and angles, showcasing the thoughtful design that went into every aspect of the architecture. The curved walls and dynamic shapes create a sense of movement, almost as if the building is alive and breathing.
Half the Air in a Given Space from Martin Creed it’s a piece of work I’ve been wanting to see and it took me back to my younger self playing in a pool full of yellow balloons. Acting as a tangible measure of the air, an otherwise invisible substance that defines free space, this playful inversion of art and space encourages visitors to change the work’s shape and volume themselves.
The OCMA is more than just a place to view art; it’s an inspiring environment that stimulates creativity and wonder. Each visit leaves me in awe of the thought and craftsmanship that went into creating such a remarkable space. For any art lover or architectural enthusiast, the OCMA is a must-visit destination.
So, the next time you are in the area don’t forget to visit the Avenue of the Arts.
